We were searching for a pre-reading program for our preschool and were thrilled to discover Butterfly Park. It has the components brain researchers deem necessary to correctly develop reading skills, and it utilizes more of the child's mind than other programs. Butterfly Park makes phonological awareness, phonics, and letter recognition fun and engaging with its stories, kinesthetic activities, and games. Brain researchers seem to agree that there is a "right" way to teach reading, so why aren't more programs doing it.
One noted brain researcher, Dr. Sally Shaywitz, author of Overcoming Dyslexia, believes that if reading were taught correctly at a young age, a child may be able to overcome a biological tendency toward dyslexia. What a statement! Butterfly Park has these critical elements. Our preschool students love the games and stories and don't realize they're building a solid reading foundation while they're having fun.
-Jim and Mary Kretchman, founders of The Classical Academy and Preschool Partners, Inc.“This fun and active program is easy for teachers to implement. It is exceptionally effective with our very diverse students, including our large second-language population. Butterfly Park is a resource that is effectively closing the achievement gap and ensuring equal access to reading strategies for all children.
-Stacey Peoples, Principal, Highline CommunitySchool, CherryCreekSchool District“We are well on our way to Butterfly Park. I am so impressed! The children cannot get enough of this program. My busy-body children are absorbing because they can get up and move!!!”
Thank you so much for your splendid sharing of Butterfly Park materials. Now I know first hand what so many parents have been raving about for so many years. Although I am nervous about many phonics programs, I am turned on by the Alphabet Workout – simply brilliant.
-Betty , Educator/psychologist, Gifted Development CenterAll the action in The Alphabet Workout very much appeals to my active son, Patrick (age 3 ½). The drama and the puppets really bring the stories alive. I think the introduction of letter combinations at the same time as individual letter sounds is particularly helpful. I like the materials in the Reading /Writing Kit. They are very comprehensive. My son especially loves working with the Blending Train.
-Cathie , ParentMy kids love the exercise part of The Alphabet Workout. It’s a great combination of learning and play. The materials in the Reading/Writing Kit were very helpful. It was great for me to learn the sounds. We had fun listening to and watching the DVD. I can see my children (ages 4 and 5) trying to sound out words when we are driving in the car!
