Children love building words with letter cards on this wooden train and then driving it around.  Great for both decoding and spelling!Three car wooden train set links together with pegs and loops to build a blending train.  Slots in the top of each car provide a space for letter cards to build words in a fun way for your visual young emergent readers.  The train comes with a set of red and blue mini letter cards.  The train also works with the full-color, half size letter cards with the letter story on the back.  Additional ideas for use:  Take the picture/word cards from Games for Phonemic Awareness and put them in sets of six to eight cards.  Children look at the picture, make the word, then check the back of the card to see if they spelled it right.  Children could also use the cards from Vowel Patterns for Reading and Spelling.  Put the cards into the holder with the picture showing.  Children build the word on the blending train, then check the spelling by sliding the card all the way out of the holder.  Great for reading centers, independent work, and small group work.
