What better way to say, “I love you” this Valentine’s Day than giving your child a book he or she can cherish.  The Book on Every Bed campaign was started to encourage parents to make reading special by giving a book as a gift and leaving it wrapped on a child’s bed Christmas Eve.  The child wakes up to the first gift of the day – a special book that the parent and child can read together and share a magical moment of cozy togetherness.  But, this gift doesn’t have to be limited to Christmas.  A book can be given anytime.  So I would like to propose A Book on Every Bed for Valentine’s Day.  Pick a special book about love and the meaning behind celebrating Valentine’s Day.   Below are some wonderful  books that celebrate the bond of love between a child and a parent, or a child and someone special.

How Do I Love You? by Marion Dane Bauer -  A book about how much we love our little ones. (pictured above)

Mama, Do You Love Me?  by  Barbara M. Joose – This tender story set in the Arctic with captivating illustrations of whales, wolves and puffins, shows that love is universal and is a special bond that transcends place and time.

Big Hugs, Little Hugs by Felicia Bond – “Big or small, furry or not, here or there, inside or out, everyone hugs all over the world.”  Felicia Bond is the illustrator of the best -selling book series beginning with If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney – I love you as far as I can reach, as high as I can hop, and all the way up to the moon.

You by Stephen Michael King – “The world is big. It is exciting and colorful and full of amazing things.  But the best thing?  The best thing in the world is you!”

The Best Kind of Kiss by Margaret Allum – “Kisses come in all kinds of shapes and sizes.  They can be big or small, snuggly or tickly…Kisses are for the people you love most.”

Never Too Little to Love by Jeanne Willis and Jan Fearnley –  “Tiny Too Little loves somebody who’s very, very tall, and Tiny really needs a kiss.  Turn the pages to see Tiny try to make himself taller and taller.  But will he ever be tall enough to get the kiss he needs?”

Koala Lou by Mem Fox – This gentle story set in Australia’s outback tells of a little Koala’s striving to win her busy mother’s love when she had really had it all the time.  “Koala Lou, I do love you.”

Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox – This is one of my favorite books! It is an anytime story about a small boy who lived next to an “old people’s home and he knew all the people who lived there.”  This heart-warming tells of Wilfred’s journey to help Miss Nancy find her memories.

Create special memories with a Book on Every Bed on Valentine's Day!
